This stone is somewhat of an enigma, it seems. While it is typically agreed upon that this is a type of jasper, what to call this particular gemstone still seems up for debate. For instance, it was sold to me as Emperor’s Stone, however in my research I have also seen Aqua Terra Jasper referred to as some variety of Sky Blue Jasper, Impression Stone, as well as Seafoam Jasper.

Jasper are varieties of chalcedony with a microcrystalline structure that belong in the quartz family. Jaspers are primarily composed of silicon dioxide (SiO2), and can form from sedimentation, volcanic activity, as well as in hydrothermal environments. Impurities and mineral inclusions such as iron, manganese, and sulfur combined with one of the above formation process are what give Jaspers their wide variety of colors and pattern combinations.
