Description
Amazonite is a variety of microcline, a type of potassium feldspar mineral and is characterized by its striking hues ranging from light turquoise to deep blue-green, often accompanied with white streaks known as schiller. This gemstone has been used for jewelry for well over three thousand years and has been culturally significant to a plethora of social groups over the course of human history.
Amazonite is often found in granite and is commonly associated with pegmatite deposits where it can occur in large, well-formed crystals. The hues of Amazonite are due to trace amounts of lead and water in the microcline structure. The shiller effect is caused by light interference within the microcline’s internal structure.
