This stone is a crystalline boron silicate mineral compounded with elements such as aluminium, iron, magnesium, sodium, lithium, or potassium. Tourmaline is pyroelectric, meaning that when warmed, it attracts dust and other lightweight particles. Tourmaline can also exhibit pleochroism, displaying different colors when viewed from different angles.

Purple tourmaline, also known as “rubellite” or “siberite”, (though some gemologist consider siberite a subtype of rubellite) derives its color from traces of manganese within its crystal structure.
